Who Discovered Chocolate?

The ancient Maya and Aztec civilizations in Central America were the first to enjoy a much prized drink 'chocolatl', made from roasted cocoa beans, water and a little spice. In fact, chocolate was used exclusively for drinking until a technique for making solid 'eating' chocolate was devised in the early Victorian times.

Early Civilization
Cocoa trees grew wild in the tropical rain forests of the Amazon basin and other tropical areas in Central and South America for thousands of years. The Maya Indians and the Aztecs used cocoa beans both as an ingredient for their special drink and as currency for hundreds of years before cocoa was brought to Europe.
